The Idea Behind tuntunre

The Idea Behind tuntunre

Tuntunre began with a simple question: what happens to the denim we discard?

In Nigeria, as in much of the world, textile waste accumulates quietly, out of sight but never truly gone. We saw an opportunity to interrupt that cycle, to take what was considered waste and transform it into something intentional, beautiful, and lasting.

Rooted in Purpose

Our name, tuntunre, comes from Yoruba, meaning "new again." It captures exactly what we do: we give high-quality Nigerian denim a second life, working with local artisans in our Lagos workshop to craft bags and accessories that honour both material and maker.

Tuntunre is not for fast fashion trends. It's about creating pieces that exist outside the noise of fast fashion, minimal, premium, and designed to be kept.

Circular by Design

Every tuntunre piece is upcycled from denim that would otherwise be discarded. We source locally, work with skilled Nigerian women artisans, and build each item with care and precision.

We believe in circular fashion: keeping materials in use, reducing waste, and creating products that don't just look good, but do good.

Quiet and Impactful

We're not interested in loud logos or fleeting trends. Instead, we focus on quality, craftsmanship, and timeless design, pieces that feel as considered as they look.

But beyond the aesthetic, there's impact. Every purchase supports local women artisans, diverts waste from landfills, and contributes to a more sustainable fashion ecosystem in Nigeria and beyond.

Made in Lagos, Made to Last

Our workshop in Lagos is where it all comes together. Here, artisans transform reclaimed denim into totes, crossbody bags, hobo bags, bucket bags, and laptop sleeves, each one unique, each one made with intention.

This is fashion that respects the hands that make it, the materials that form it, and the people who carry it.

Welcome to tuntunre. New again.
